All hands on deck!
Our Bosun, Ian Maguire, put out a call to action as our GRP Gig, Trafalgar, was in need of some TLC. A strong contingent of members arrived at the Camber with the sun beating down, armed with their buckets, sponge scrubbing brushes and T-Cut.
With the numbers present, Trafalgar was scrubbed clean inside and then careful brute force was employed to turn the boat over, exposing the keel. All present were pleasantly surprised to discover that Trafalgar was in such good condition but she was now ready for a 'facial’, so several of our members set about with the T-Cut. Further beauty treatment will be required to the keel with our Bosun planning to administer some gelcoat repairs.
We were very fortunate that one of the local Royal Marines workshops kindly donated two dollies that they had fabricated for us. These dollies allow us to safely manoeuvre Trafalgar around the Camber and into the water. Our Bosun took the opportunity to apply a topcoat of paint as both dollies only benefitted from an undercoat and untreated metal and seawater are not good bedfellows!
All in all, a successful morning and thoroughly enjoyed by the workparty. One thing our Club has done whilst we haven't been able to enjoy the rowing is keep busy!
