RMA Gig Club & the RMA - The Royal Marines Charity commemorates…
Every year, the nation unites in commemorating Remembrance Sunday. This morning our Club members remembered the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts in their own way.
In Plymouth, several of our members attended the Remembrance service held on Plymouth Hoe. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the service was somewhat different than in previous years and attendance numbers were reduced.
In London, the Cenotaph in London’s Whitehall would normally be packed with thousands of veterans and members of the military for the commemorations, but today less than 30 veterans were in attendance. Phil Gilby MBE (pictured at the back) who is the Membership Operations Director (West) of the RMA-TRMC was proud to be one of the few who were privileged to pay their respects.
Social distancing measures were in place and the service was closed off to the public for the first time.
Following a two-minute silence, wreaths were laid by Prince Charles, Prince William and the PM, among others.
