“I name this ship…”
The Club has been working incredibly hard in raising the funds to buy our first wooden boat from Helford River Gig Club, once known as ‘Merthen’. However, thanks to the understanding and generosity of Helford River Gig Club, ‘Merthen’ has now been renamed ‘COCKLESHELL’.
Obviously this name has very close connections with the Royal Marines. The name ‘Cockleshell’ was proposed by Terry Keen, one of our veterans and unanimously accepted by the membership via a poll.
The beautiful signwriting on the boat was carried out by Helford River Gig Club's signwriter, Sheila McCann Downes who trades as Signs of Good Taste who practices traditional signwriting.
We think she is looking fantastic and we cannot wait to take delivery of her soon!
