Club coach, Bob Bryant, preparing ‘Trafalgar’ for its farewell journey from tne Camber

The Club’s development continued today with the relocation of our GRP gig ‘Trafalgar’ from its original base at the Camber in RM Stonehouse to the Club’s new headquarters at the Mountbatten Centre.

When the Club was formed in early 2019 the natural home to base itself was at the Camber but, due to its location, several challenges faced the members trying to launch ‘Trafalgar’ including security access to the base, the steepness of the slipway, the tide heights and even the Cross Channel Ferry!

The growth in membership means that the rowing demands of the Club have increased and to ensure that the above challenges are addressed, the Committee made the decision to relocate ‘Trafalgar’ to The Mountbatten Centre to join our wooden gig ‘Cockleshell’.

This move ensures that the Club is now based at The Mountbatten Centre in its entirety offering our members much improved facilities and a better ‘club’ experience, including; access to 2 gentle slipways, free car parking, showers, changing facilities, bar and cafe to name but a few. Granted, the current Coronavirus restrictions mean that we do not currently enjoy all of these facilities but life will return to normal and so the members are looking forward to a new era in the Club’s evolution.
